My Poem

My Poem
Even today as we are free
To what our hearts believe and the natural eye see
Prejudice and racism hidden
If only it could be forbidden

A. Allusion
  • I alluded to the fact that racism still goes on now even though we may not have experienced it or see it.
B. Tone
  • The tone of my poem was wishfulness. Even though African Americans are free according to the law there still is inequality and racism going on.
C. Figurative Language
  • The rhyme scheme that I used was AABB.
D. Theme
  • My poem is craft based on the themes of Countee Cullen's poems. The themes that majority of his poems deals with are racism and inequality.
E. Interpretation
  • My goal when writing this poem was to mimic Countee Cullen's themes but to relate it to how racism for African Americans is today.
